In a modern data transmission networks where the number of communication nodes is large or growing, the amount of timing equipment required for stable operation is also increasing. Different types of control, lack of necessary interfaces for remote control, belonging to different manufacturers render a wide range of timing equipment inconvenient to operate and configure. To meet this challenge, versatile hardware and software package has been developed, which includes a number of features that enable a large fleet of timing equipment to be assembled into a single configurable control system. Main criteria for selecting this type of system include such features as flexible connection of different equipment, extensive functionality (emergency data acquisition, management, and archiving; handling hardware under different protocols supported by any network device; full system redundancy (hardware and software); fast operation; resistance to external interference and hacking, etc.).
NTP is based on communication between a client and a server, whereby the client requests and the server provides the actual date and time data. The client adjusts their own clock in the appropriate manner and then requests information again at the time interval set by the protocol. As the client communicates with the server, the clock is not adjusted by the resulting packet delay time, so this type of synchronisation is not the most accurate nowadays; it cedes this place to the new PTP protocol, which takes account of the above. Nevertheless, NTP has the advantage of a much larger number of connectable clients, which makes it even more relevant in networks with a large number of clients and low frequency quality requirements.
