Project description
Vilcom Holding constructed the FIFA stadium in Volgograd with a capacity of 45,000 seats for the 2018 World Cup. Our area of responsibility comprises design, production of equipment, supply, software development. Construction of a large-scale stadium in the Hero City of Volgograd is a unique experience and a huge responsibility. Volgograd Arena is unique both architecturally and technologically. The façade of the arena is a magnificent openwork construction of intertwined beams and rods of varying thickness arranged around the perimeter of the stadium. The weight of the façade construction is 3,600 tonnes; this is an unparalleled structure. Steel structures of the façade, the mid range of supporting columns and the roof are interconnected by movable articulated joints and work as a single living organism. The structure of the façade framework rests on 44 pyramidal reinforced concrete columns via articulated supports. This ensures the structure mobility, which allows to balance out temperature, wind, and seismic loads on the building. During the construction of the stadium over 10,000 steel structures were erected. The volume of cast-in-place works amounted to 151,000 m³. At peak times, almost 3,000 people were involved in the construction of the stadium.
